Emirates Baggage Allowance 2026: Unveiled for Travellers from Australia

Last checked: 19 October 2026.

A little planning leaves more room for the good part of travelling. Here’s a practical guide to Emirates baggage allowances for travellers from Australia in 2026.

Your ticket and Manage Your Booking show the allowance for your itinerary. Check these before packing, particularly when connecting with another airline.

Checked Baggage From Australia

Most routes use a total weight allowance. Routes involving the Americas or Africa generally use a piece allowance, with itinerary exceptions.

Weight-concept allowances
Cabin / Fare Allowance
Economy Special 20 kg
Economy Saver 25 kg generally; 30 kg for journeys originating in Australia or New Zealand, for tickets issued from 26 November 2019
Economy Flex 30 kg
Economy Flex Plus 35 kg
Premium Economy 35 kg
Business 40 kg
First 50 kg

Each bag must weigh no more than 32 kg. Under the weight concept, length + width + height must not exceed 203 cm.

Travelling to the Americas or Africa?

Under the standard piece concept, Economy Special includes one 23 kg bag; other Economy fares and Premium Economy include two 23 kg bags. Business and First include two 32 kg bags. Route and stopover exceptions apply, so use your ticket’s allowance.

Carry-On Baggage

Cabin Allowance Maximum Size
Economy One bag, 7 kg 55 × 38 × 22 cm
Premium Economy One bag, 10 kg 55 × 38 × 22 cm
Business / First Two pieces, each up to 7 kg Briefcase: 45 × 35 × 20 cm; handbag: 55 × 38 × 22 cm; garment bag: up to 20 cm thick when folded

Business and First passengers may bring a briefcase plus either a handbag or garment bag. Departure-country exceptions apply, including India and Brazil. Don’t assume a separate laptop bag is an extra free allowance.

Travelling With an Infant

A carry-cot or fully collapsible stroller may travel in the cabin if space permits; otherwise it must be checked. Confirm the infant’s separate baggage entitlement for your booking.

Bag Size and Extra Baggage Fees

For piece-concept journeys, the standard combined dimensions are 150 cm. Larger bags below 203 cm attract oversize fees; items exceeding 203 cm must travel as cargo or freight.

Extra baggage prices depend on the route and, for some journeys, the ticket issue date. Check your quote in Manage Your Booking rather than relying on a single advertised fee. Advance-purchase discounts may be available, with eligible online purchases possible up to four hours before departure.

A Simpler Packing Routine

  • Check the allowance shown on your ticket for every part of your journey.
  • Weigh each bag at home, including your carry-on.
  • Measure your suitcase, including wheels and handles.
  • Check Emirates’ guidance for restricted items and any sports equipment before travelling.
  • Choose the things you’ll actually use, and leave room for the unexpected.
